In the first meeting Lizzy will sit down with both the student and the parents or caregivers and see what she can help with through having a conversation. She will then set the goals that the students wants to be able to reach in a small amount of time, which will be related to the previously discussed end goal. For example in order to write an essay the student must first be able to write a paragraph. The goals can be as broad or as small as the family wants for example, to finish high school or university.

She then will set out the ways in which to achieve this goal through tutoring, mentoring or coaching. This can include a range of strategies and skills such as using a diary, planning, how to study, social skills, study timetables etc. This helps unclutter and sooth a developing mind and involve skills that students can use in the future, throughout university and beyond.
